The new Facebook Messenger
Facebook Messenger has become a really important platform for the Zuckerberg company. Last year it was the app that grew the most with 200 million new users, even higher than WhatsApp rate. In fact, according to Zuckenberg, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger have now tripled their daily text message traffic, with 60 billion texts and images sent every day. Facebook Messenger continues growing, last month the app had the record figure of 900 million active users per month, now the company has introduced a new system of bots for Messenger. This new feature offers us services and information automatically.
During the conference where Zuckenberg presented the new tools for the app, he explained that these new improvements will enable companies to create “chat bots”, allowing users to send files of any type via Dropbox. For weeks now WhatsApp allows users to share PDF files and in the near future it will increase the number of possible shared formats.
But on Facebook Messengers there’s a huge difference; while on WhatsApp files are sent inside the app and the information is kept by the server in Facebook Messenger only the links are sent and files are kept on Dropbox. This feature will be on the “more” button. If we send pictures or videos, we would see them on Messenger, but in the case of phone files Messenger will open the Dropbox app or the Internet if you have not installed the app on your device.
The second change presented by Facebook Messenger will only be available for Android, it’s a new video application that allows us to use the phone while having a video call. This is possible thanks to the “chat head” interface which displays the video in a fixed bubble on the screen of our mobile telephone. You will be able to try all these new options first hand really soon.
