Jay,

Missed this one earlier. I really liked the vision behind this:
"Miles Davis,
breathing life through a horn." Good stuff.

Then you're a good liar (about "not being interesting). I didn't get a strong love-making or "fudging" vibe, honest, I didn't. But I thought about the possibility, and ya know... I like it better the way it was intended (which is also the way I originally interpreted it).

I don't want people to get the wrong idea about the last two lines. There is no lovemaking or "fudging" going on in this poem.

The line about being "in her" is the writer's way of saying that he hopes he means as much to her as she means to him.

As for the pic, I'll give you my URL, but you have to email me for it. I don't just give it out to any schmo ya know. Be warned though, I'm really not that interesting.

Jay, this poem grew more and more beautiful as it went on. I have to say I didn't like the first half as much as I like most of your work. Rather, I didn't like some of the words used, such as "giant bulb," (takes away the brilliant beauty of the sun, I think) "bones and marrow," umm... I don't like the idea of the giant bulb lighting the stage, curtain being drawn, masses going home... I assume you're taking the stage idea from the author who wrote "All the world is a stage." Every stage must have lighting, thus the sun, which must therefore be a bulb... but I don't think that it quite fits with the rest of the poem.

See, from "setting fire to the cherry-wine" all the way through "You have been inside of me, as I long to be in you," is absolutely beautiful. It's... I love it. I love it, I love it, I love it. I love the last two lines. Finally you write (seemingly) of making love, rather than fudging, and you've shown a serious, beautiful side of yourself in doing so.

You know I love the mention of red umbrellas and Miles Davis, and you know why. God, I love the second to last stanza! The imagery... gorgeous. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. Now I want to see a pic even more! (I asked if you have one over on "We Were the Quiet Ones.") You intrigue me, Jay. I want to know more of this poetry!

Humbly Yours,
Lady of the Night

My heart does travel.

During the hours when
the sun, like a giant bulb,
lights this stage, and
at that moment, when the curtain
is drawn, and the masses go home,

my heart does travel, and
you become a visitor within me.

You move with grace, through
bones and marrow,
setting fire to the cherry-wine
pumping through my veins, feeding
my drought with gentle rain.

You have been inside of me,
and reside there still,

in the ink that flows from my pen,
and the tears than run from my eye.
You are the last remaining droplet
on my window,
hours after the storm has gone.

Lately, you are the reason I think
about red umbrellas, and
the creases in the cheeks
of Miles Davis,
breathing life through a horn.

It is you that I sing to, while
my guitar sits, hollow upon my thigh,
and when I close my green eyes
before the high note, I see you
dreaming, nude, under a perfect moon.

You have been inside of me,
as I long to be in you.
