Jay,

Very good. One of your better ones in my opinion despite its simplicity.

No Aoibh, I wouldn't say that the Irish are all considered friendly here; in fact the Feinian (sp?) Brotherhood were Canada's first terrorists and likely did more damage than the Front d'liberation d'Québec (FLQ) to our national interests (they were mainly pro American).

However, Irish pubs are famous through out our country (English ones too; Steak and Kidney pie... Yum!) as is the stout and other beers. Canada is a Mecca for beer, and along with hockey is considered required learning for all teens. (By the way Jay my favourit Leaf was Lanny MacDonald and I followed my loyalty with him to the Calgary Flames!).

Of course as beer goes, I am more than a little rusty! Hmm... Hockey too, now that I think about it. Too many damn whistles now, and like bad poetry the game lacks flow!

Ceud Mile Fáilte. Absolutely correct. No doubt on this one!

Math thu-fhèin, Jay.

...not to mention that everyone over there is under 5 feet tall, right?

Believe me, not everyone thinks the Irish are all friendly and live in pubs.
However, Ireland is known for it's pubs; and it's beer. I happen to like pubs and beer. My background is Irish and i've always wanted to visit Ireland. That is what the poem is about.

As for the title, does it not mean "Ireland Forever"?

Do I have to brush up on my already limited and apparently rusty Gaelic? Did I at least get the rest right?

the title caught my attention. Where'd you get the Gaelic?

errr....what did you think you were saying in the title? Cause what you did say was "Ireland Rotten Ferment." :) I have a feeling that that's not quite what you meant, though.

I must say that I didn't like it so much. Maybe it was that the Gaelic felt kind of stuck in there, maybe because of the misconception that Irish people are all friendly and live in pubs. I don't know what it was, but it was a good read, anyway. I mean, it caught my attention and held it. And I read it many times because it was rather intriguing (spelling??).

Dunno, Jay. I'll sleep on it.

With tuppence for paper and strings,
you can have your own set of wings.
With your feet on the ground,
your a bird in flight!
With your fist holding tight,
to the string of your kite!

Let's go fly a kite
Up to the highest height
Let's go fly a kite
And send it soaring
Up through the atmosphere
Up where the air is clear
Oh, let's go fly a kite!
