I wrote out this poem after a personal loss to me in my young life - in the late 60's and don't know where it came from... I know it sounds like a Hallmark card, but if anyone is familiar with it - I would appreciate knowing where it came from. Thank you.
So Many "Ifs"
Sometimes a tragedy occurs
By just a twist of fate.
If something had not happened, it
Would not have been too late.
If someone had not turned this way
Or ever spoken that,
Or if the eye had known at once
What it was looking at.
There are so many "ifs" in life
For all we might have done.
We think that we were robbed when we
Should normally have won.
Sometimes it makes us wonder what
This life is all about.
And we are very much confused
And ever so in doubt.
Perhaps it is the will of God
There be a tragedy.
And maybe he decides against
The "ifs" for you and me.
