Does any one remember

Alla (or Ali) made poetry a cheap thing to buy and a simple thing to understand
He gave men dreams by night that may dream by day
All the town of Bagdad is passionate for poetry
I have seen great men weep, and butchers bury their head in their hands

and ends something like
Ah! if ever there comes a day when the people have forgotten poetry, or the poets have forgotten the people
There will be a dark patch upon the earth

It is from "The Story of Hassan of Baghdad and How He Came to Make the Golden Journey to Samarkand" by James Elroy Flecker
