poem from the mid 1960's

I'm trying again!
This was a long poem that my sister memorized and recited in the second grade in S.D. California. It told a story about a Saint Bernard dog named Sally.
This is what I remember:

Saint Bernard Sally
from Orphan Dog Alley
Was weary of being alone.
"Woof" she would wail
with a droop of her tail
"I wish I had folks of my own"

I hope this is more helpful than my previous entry!
Thanks!

No luck. Probably (not yet) on the net. But if you post something like this, it will automatically bump up again, and remind people to have another look.

I am trying to find the rest of the verses to this poem too. I read it to my son when he was small...in the 60s. I think it was in a "Read Aloud" paperback book.

It's not on the internet, Marian. See my note to Mujitsu about going back to the source.

Hmmmm, I seem to be doing something wrong. My followups are not being posted!

Les, I did a google search and that is where I found this forum.

I also searched for "Read Aloud" books. What I found was not what I had. I bought them, and other children's books in the 'dime' store, back in the 60s.

I gave most of those books to my grandaughters a couple of years ago. I don't know if that one was included. Some of them were badly damaged in storage, and thrown away.
The girls are ages 10-13, and live too far away for me to check to see if they have the one with that poem in it.

Marian
