'For many a fair haired maiden..."

Looking for a poem with the line "....For many a fair haired maiden and many a blue eyed boy..." ( is about all i can remember). It had a haunting quality and repeated the phrase over a few stanzas. Theme of how beauty and youth fades. Can someone identify? It was not an obscure poem -- that I must have read in school many years ago.

Tres-

Maybe this?

WITH rue my heart is laden
For golden friends I had,
For many a rose-lipt maiden
And many a lightfoot lad.

By brooks too broad for leaping
The lightfoot boys are laid;
The rose-lipt girls are sleeping
In fields where roses fade.

?

Amigo-

You are entirely welcome.
It is indeed a red letter day when I beat Les to the punch... AND get it right!

Reminds me of a sauce I used to prepare: with roux my quart is laden, I mean.

Mr Hofnfenstein has something to say ...

With rue my heart is laden
For many a lass I had,
For many a rouge-lipped maiden,
That's got a richer lad.

In rooms too small for leaping
Such lads as I are laid,
While richer boys are keeping
The girls that do not fade.

What Alfred actually penned:

With rue my heart is laden
For the lad I never had,
Since he preferred a maiden
In my days as undergrad.

In bed the babe was reaping
The joys of getting laid,
But I was left to weeping
And received a failing grade.

A true story, I might add.
