If you think you can

I can only remember one line, and it might even be the first line. This is a poem I remember from school about seventy years ago. So It's not new!

The line is: "If you think you can you..." In other words the poet is saying that success comes from thinking success is possible and probably diserved.

I hope someone can help with this as I have a magazine article In mind to write for a teen magazine.

Thanks in advance,

Joe Daigre

this one ?
.
The victor
C. W. Longenecker

If you think you are beaten, you are,
If you think you dare not, you don't.
If you like to win, but you think you can't,
It is almost certain you won't.

If you think you'll lose, you're lost,
For out in the world we find,
Success begins with a fellow's will.
It's all in the state of mind.

If you think you are outclassed, you are,
You've got to think high to rise,
You've got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize.

Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster man.
But soon or late the man who wins,
Is the man who thinks he can.

when it was first published ( circa 1926, I believe)
it was slightly different, I don't known which version is correct, sorry
.
If you think you are beaten, you are,
If you think you dare not, you don't,
If you like to win, but you think you can't,
It's almost a "cinch" you won't.
If you think you'll lose, you've lost,
For out in the world you find
Success begins with a fellow's will;
It's all in the state of mind.

Full many a race is lost
Ere ever a step is run;
And many a coward fails
Ere ever his work's begun.
Think big and your deeds will grow,
Think small and you'll fall behind,
Think that you can and you will;
It's all in the state of mind.

If you think you're outclassed, you are,
You've got to think high to rise,
You've got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize.
Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster man,
But sooner or later, the man who wins,
Is the fellow who thinks he can.

I remember in my 7th grade English class (11 yrs ago) we had to memorize this poem. I wrote a speech for my nursing school graduation and I used this poem. Now I'm in college and I have to sumbit a copy of one of my favorite poems. This site is wonderful I had no idea where to start to find this poem. I agree with Ilza I remeber her version of the poem. I'm not really sure which one's right, but wither way they are both inspirational.

I have both versions of this under the title 'It's All In A State of Mind' by Walter D Wintle - picked up off e-mule two or three years ago, I think.

The only one i can think of

"If you think you can, You can" by Denis Waitley

You can be a total winner
Even if you're a beginner
If you think you can, you can
If you think you can, you can
Raise that C up to an A
Get in the school play
If you think you can

It's not your talent or the gift at birth
It's not your bankbook that determines worth
It's not the color or texture of your skin
It's your attitude that lets you win

You can ride your own black stallion
You can wear a gold medallion
If you think you can, you can
If you think you can, you can

You can learn to ride a bike
Up a mountain, you can hike
You can wear a diamond crown
You can get back up, when you've been down
If you think you can

It doesn't matter if you've won before
It makes no difference what the halftime score
It isn't 'til the final gun if there were one
So keep on trying and you'll find what you've won
You grab your dream, and you believe it
Go out and work, and you'll achieve it
If you think you can, you can
If you think you can, you can
