I have a poem, but I don't know either the author or the title. can anybody help me out?

in the midwest
i know a man
i can't remember the name of his town
he holds cigarettes
but dreams of my hand
when decembers cold flame burns down

with eyes on his lashes
and on the street
he could not see shuffling his feet
with a brain so focused
and friends so lovely
he could not think
but thinking of me

how i miss him now
and the chance to explain
but this georgia voice
couldn't cut through the illinois rain

but externally find out what i meant on the roof top
when he followed me up there and drew circles on my back
when he fell asleep on my skipping heart beat
woke up when it had skipped out

are we all so afraid to say
what we want while its in our sights
i cannot embrace the day
until i find that it's night.

Julie, the poem is not on the internet. If it is by a famous author, it may be under copyright. Go to the source where you found it. If you heard it on the radio check there, if you read it somewhere go there. Ask your local librarian to check the first line for their archives. Good luck in your search.
