I had such a quick response, I thought I'd try another. In grade school as well, there was a poem about pussy willows and I believe cat/kitten paw reference. Sorry it's not much to go on but I have faith in the people in this forum!

Thank you for you link! After using the search with Google under "pussy willow poem", I found it on some obscure kindergarten site. I must have been younger than I thought! Here it is:

I know a little pussy
Her coat is silver gray
She lives down in the meadow
Not very far away.
She'll always be a pussy
She'll never be a cat
'Cause she's a pussy willow
Now what do you think of that?

At the end, all the kids say "meow" several times and yell scat!
