I'm not allowed to run the train
The whistle I cannot blow
I'm not allowed to say
How far the little cars can go
I'm not allowed to blow off steam
Or even clang the bell
But let it jump the ---track
And see who catches hell.

Thanks for providing the verse - I remember seeing the poem on the wall of an engineer's office but can't recall the full poem - who was the author? I don't know why, but I recall seeing AA Milne on th poster but this might be completely incorrect. I want to use this poem as part of a training exercise with new railway engineering graduates. Hope you can help.
Regards
David Phillips

My father worked for the Long Island Railroad for many years......I heard this poem about 20 years ago....when I told it to him....he loved it .....said "thats for damn sure !"
