Here's an enquiry from Phrase Finder; can you help, please?
I am trying to find a poem I read in school in Scotland. It was about a hawthorn tree and a babbling brook. I can't remember the author or title. It is quite important as my mother in law read the same poem and loved it but she is very poorly at the moment and I would love to find it for her.
Tennyson's The Brook (google) babbles, but I don't remember hawthorns. Try it on her and see.
Or Wordsworth has various hawthorn bushes ('The Female Vagrant', 'Lucy Gray,' both on Google) but I don't remember them being near any brooks...
I've put forward The Brook. I've also suggested The Deserted Village by Oliver Goldsmith and L’Allegro by John Milton, though I don't remember reading these at school.
