From Edmund Blunden's "Undertones of War"

In chapter two of this autobiography Blunden quotes the follwing:

"Day succeeded unto day,
Night to pensive night."

It sounds somewhat Biblical to me, though much looking has failed to turn such a sentence up. Is anyone able to help with this?
