Awakening/self realization poetry

For a school assignment I have to talk about 2 texts which are about an inner-awakening, a self realization. I want to do one of these on a poem but I really have no idea where to start. If anyone could give me any poems or anything about the topic it would be a great help.
Thanks

How about a song on the same subject:

Yesterday When I Was Young
--Roy Clark

Yesterday when I was young
the taste of life was sweet as rain upon my tongue.
I teased at life as if it were a foolish g ame,
the way the evening breeze may tease a candle fl ame.
The thousand dreams I dreamed, the splendid things I planned
I always built alas on weak and shifting sand.
I lived by night and shunned the naked light of the day
and only now I see how the years ran away.

Yesterday when I was young
so many drinking songs were waiting to be sung,
so many wayward pleasures lay in store for me
and so much pain my dazzled eyes refused to see.
I ran so fast that time and youth at last ran out,
I never stopped to think what life was all about
and every conversation I can now recall
concerned itself with me and nothing else at all.

I asked my teacher if I could use a song, he said I can but I have to have the music and everything to go with it, and I don't have the song...thanks anyway though, it's just the sort of thing that i'm trying to find, so if anyone out there knew of a poem or short story like this song i'd love to hear about it...
