Looking for visual representation of time.

I have to complete a related material portfolio..on the concept of time.
(I'm in year 11) I need a visual and text piece. These texts should be closely related to the area if study (time). I possibly have a text (its a song..) but texts are pretty easy to find. Its the visual text i'm having trouble with. examples of these in the past are cartoons portraying the journey of a child from birth to death. Please help me find either a poem relating to time or a visual text relating to time! PLEASE!

Ursula,

Does it have to be poetry? Will song lyrics work as well?

TIME WAITS FOR NO ONE
(M. Jagger/K. Richards)

Yes, star crossed in pleasure the stream flows on by
Yes, as we're sated in leisure, we watch it fly

And time waits for no one, and it won't wait for me
And time waits for no one, and it won't wait for me

Time can tear down a building or destroy a woman's face
Hours are like diamonds, don't let them waste

Time waits for no one, no favours has he
Time waits for no one, and he won't wait for me

Men, they build towers to their passing yes, to their fame everlasting
Here he comes chopping and reaping, hear him laugh at their cheating

And time waits for no man, and it won't wait for me
Yes, time waits for no one, and it won't wait for me

Drink in your summer, gather your corn
The dreams of the night time will vanish by dawn

And time waits for no one, and it won't wait for me
And time waits for no one, and it won't wait for me

No no no, not for me....

The novel and film that comes to my mind is "The Clockwork Orange" by Anthohhny Burgess. I can't say if it relates to time, but the title implies that it does.

Time
--Pink Floyd

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it’s sinking
And racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in the relative way, but you’re older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the english way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I’d something more to say

Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
And when I come home cold and tired
It’s good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells.

Harlan Ellison's short story- 'Repent Harlequin, Said the Ticktock Man.'

For visual- how about an hourglass?

Clockwork Orange can be consisered a bit iffy. The whole phrase is "queer (meaning peculiar, in this context) as a clockwork orange" Its written in a peculiar jargon derived from Russian, an is about a gang of violent thugs.

How about a futurist painting such as the one here:-

Thanks heaps for the lyrics etc. I've decided to either use the Pink Floyd or even the Road not taken by Robert Frost. (Because that is on journeys.. as in Time, because journeys are a concept of time) But i need a visual picture...... e.g. as i said, some people have cartoons demonstrating time... or some people are doing the movie = the butterfly affect. thanks for your help so far.

Dali has a whole series of paintings dealing with time:

thank you for all the suggestions, but Dali was used in class so i am not permitted to use any of his works? So is there any other suggestions, hopefully, for a visual representation of time..such as a cartoon, painting or photograph (that has a direct concept of time such as journeys, change of time, memory etc.)

Thanks

Try looking at the Futurist painters. How to reprisent time passing in a single picture was one of their concerns.
