Hi
I am completeing my HSC this year. I have to find two texts which relate to Coleridge's poems:
This Lime Tree Bomer, My Prison
Frost at Midnight
Kubla Khan
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner
I have to find texts that relate with the techniques used which include: imagery
Symbolism
Rythem
Rhyme
Alliteration
assonance
Tone etc
They can relate in story but do not have to. Its mainly the points/ideas that are conveyed that need to be relative to Coleridge's poems. Similar in that the character in the text has to experience an imaginative journey. A journey that takes us into the world of the imagination and inspiration, explore the power of the imagination to challenge thinking.
Unfortunatly i am not allowed to use related texts that are poems. They can be anything else however: books, song lyrics, pictures, articles etc.
If you know of texts that have internet sites exploring the suggested texts that would be extremely helpfull.
If you know of sites where i can look for related texts on my own, again that would also be extremely helpfull.
I suppose that if i worked hard enough i would find some related texts o nmy own however my assessment is drawing dangerously close and i have too much work for other subjects as it is, any help would be appreciated.
Thankyou
Jo
P.S
If anyone else who is in the same boat but can use poems to relate to Coleridge 'The Raven' by Edgar Allan Poe is a good related text for 'Frost at Midnight'.
Dragonfire, Lewis Carrol's novel, Alice in Wonderland is one you could use to illustrate an imaginative journey. The two songs below can be used to compare with Coleridge's, Kubla Khan.
I hope they are of some help to you.

Magic Carpet Ride
Steppenwolf
(Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back Soundtrack)
I like to dream
Yes, yes right between the sound machine
On a cloud of sound I drift in the night
Any place it goes is right
Goes far, flies near, to the stars away from here
Well, you don't know what we can find
Why don't you come with me little girl on a magic carpet ride?
You don't know what we can see
Why don't you tell your dreams to me? Fantasy will set you free.
Close your eyes girl, look inside girl, let the sound take you away.
Last night I held Aladdin's lamp, and so I wished that I could stay.
Before the thing could answer me well someone came and took the lamp away
I looked around a lousy candle was all I found.
Well, you don't know what we can find
Why don't you come with me little girl on a magic carpet ride?
Well you don't know what we can see
Why don't you tell your dreams to me? Fantasy will set you free.
Close your eyes girl, look inside girl, let the Sound take you away.
(long instrumental)
Well, you don't know what we can find
Why don't you come with me little girl on a magic carpet ride?
Well you don't know what we can see
Why don't you tell your dreams to me? Fantasy will set you free.

White Rabbit
---Jefferson Airplane
One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small
And the ones that mother gives you
Don't do anything at all
Go ask Alice
When she's ten feet tall
And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you're going to fall
Tell 'em a hookah smoking caterpillar
Has given you the call
Call Alice
When she was just small
When men on the chessboard
Get up and tell you where to go
And you've just had some kind of mushroom
And your mind is moving low
Go ask Alice
I think she'll know
When logic and proportion
Have fallen sloppy dead
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen's "off with her head!"
Remember what the doormouse said:
"Feed your head
Feed your head"
