If modernism( being a break from established poetic traditions and a move to question man's place in the universe) was beginning to emerge around WW1-(1914) would this be assosciated with the fast past working lifestyle many americans were experiencing as they struggled to reach the "American Dream" of being wealthy(successful)?

Any thoughts on how life was at this time and how it might have effected writers would be greatly appreciated!
