Physical Journeys

Hi All

I have been reading the posts about the physical journeys, and they have really helped me out in my studies. I was wondering though, if anyone has any ideas of a book that might also have something to do with physical journeys? Sorry to bring the topic up again, but I have realised that there are a lot of friendly people on here, willing to help out.

Thanks in advance

Joanne

Practically anything by Jules Verne, or Robert Louis Stevenson would work.

I have to do an assessment on the topic of 'physical journeys'. To do this i have been asked to find a song that relates to this topic. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good songs to fit this category, that i can analyse for my assessment task.
I was thinking that since you were on the topic you may be able 2 healp.

thanx heaps linda. Now i have to choose one and answer the following question:
"How does this tect contribute to your ideas on physical journey?"
Remember to discuss how the composer presents the ideas on physical journey. & i'll be getting marked on my writing skills and my understanding of the physical journey and how the text conveys this message.
But thanx i'll check out those songs! = )

hey. i have to do an assessment on the topic of 'physical journey'. I had to choose a text about physical journey, i think i am going to choose the poem Bushwalking by Phillip Rush!
Now i have to answer the following question for the task:
"How does this text contribute to your ideas on physical journey?"
Remembering to discuss how the composer presents the ideas on physical journey.
Please help! where should i start to answer this question?!!
Thhis is the poem:
Bushwalking
--Phillip Rush

What inspires a man to climb
The mountains in the autumn-time?
Is it just because they're there?
Or for some idiotic dare?
Or just to prove one's fit enough
To complete a climb that's tough?
Each one of these, at times, is right;
But others climb for sheer delight.

Not for the joy of aching knees,
Or scrambling over fallen trees.
Not for the joy of carrying packs
That cause so many aching backs.
Not for the beads of perspiration,
But for the pure inspiration
Of living pictures unsurpassed
When one gains the peak, at last.

A city dweller cannot see
The view that lies in front of me,
As wearily I sit me down
On Acropolis' crown.
How can one describe the thrills,
As row on row of distant hills
Unfold before my very eyes
Beneath the blue autumnal skies?
And my mountain throne commands
Views of jewelled alpine tarns,
While patches of the brilliant snow
Reflect the sunlight's mystic glow.

Anxieties and troubles cease,
For here the world is all at peace.
Massive cliffs of sombre grey
Stretch towards the timeless day.
And beyond suburban reach
I see the golden native beech.
The photograph and artist's paint
Give but a feeble semblance faint
Of the beauty, vast and grand,
Inherent in our glorious land.
I climb the peaks for inspiration
Of God's incredible creation.

How about books like "The Ascent of Everest" by Sir John Hunt or Newby's "A short walk in the Hindu Kush" or any of Tim Severin's voyages.

And a poem I recently came across "Breathless [Written at 21,000 feet on May 23rd]" by Wilfred Noyce, who was on the 1953 Everest expedition.
