Thistles- plz help

Hi guys,
Its my 3rd day back at school after my christmas holidays, (the long one in New Zealand) and my teacher gave this essay quesiton

"Discuss the ways in which Hughes has used language in his poem Thistles and comment on his use of symbolism"

im doing AS english lit. and have no idea how to tackle this please help.
