Dear Colleagues,
I have some questions about the "Journeys" component of your curriculum. In order to best help students from Australia with their assignments I would like to know the following:
A. Is there a difference between "inner" journeys and "imaginative" journeys?
B. Are students given a syllabus which lists possible selections for answering questions or assignments dealing with physical, or imaginative journeys? If so, is this list available on the internet?
C. Why do such a large number of students, probably more than a dozen in the last year, have need for outside help with these assignments?
If you are an Australian Teacher, or Instructor, please advise me and the rest of the regulars here at E-Mule on these questions and any thing else about the journeys assignments you feel might be helpful. Thank you.

Les,
I think that some of the asking for help is due to panic. I also participate in a FWW discussion board, and we were recently inundated with students doing their A level exams on First World War poetry.
pam
Pam, I'm sure it is (due to panic). And I'm sure that this site probably comes up on a Google search of "Poetry, Homework Assistance". What concerns me is that there seems to be no student networking at these schools, and also the possibility that there are no studylists available from which the students may choose from selected suggestions.
Les
Les,
In Australia, each State organizes the educational curriculum for schools in that State. There's not much Federal contribution to the detail. In each State the school and teaching standards range from excellent to leaves-a-lot-to-be-desired. The Australian requests for Emule help in relation to 'journeys' have all come from New South Wales. Maybe Rikki, who I believe lives in NSW, can get from the Department of Education in Sydney some of the information you requested.
The school year in Australia runs from Jan/Feb to Dec. The school summer holidays are all starting or have started about now, and will continue until about the end of January. So there probably won't be many teachers working or many homework assistance requests from NSW in the next 8 weeks.
Some students, like Christie, are already conscientiously preparing for 2005 however, and as she's not leaving it all to a last-minute panic, she deserves what help we can give her. I'm not sure where you shifted her post from. It doesn't have a live address to reply to directly, and I guess she won't be looking for responses in a thread with the title of this one!

You see Australias curriculum is very hard to understand and the Board Of Studies who sets these tasks use the smae ones for AT LEAST 5 years and do not understand that no one gets what they are trying ti get us to do. Australian students can't ask there teachers for help I myself have an english teacher who i asked for extra notes on characters for a book and she told me to go find em myself. See the teachers do not go out of their way to help they keep the same task give us millions of texts as ideas and say we can't use em because they told us about em. Go figure? We Aussies have to do well so we can do our HSC final exam tat determines the rest of our lives so we turn to outside help. Hope this gives a good insight
Thanks for the info. Kizza. There are surprisingly few websites which contain resources for Australian school subjects. Unlike here in the U.S. where there are too many to count.
Les
Yes... I can see what is being said here. I was talking to my english teacher the other day, and basically, we ask for help, and then they turn their backs on us, by telling us that we cannot use a certain text, because they have spoke to us about it. It seems as though it happens a lot here "down under". So I guess, that is why students are asking for help regarding these tasks, as their teachers aren't very supportive in their final year of school.

Yeah it is hard being an aussie going to school. (My teacher is well i can't nthink of anything g rated.) I go to a school in Sydney NSW in Dural and even though its a good school some of the teachers are either dumb or not gonna help. We have two sites that we can use in AUS boardofstudies and www.boredofstudies.com but everyone knows them so its hard to use em. som, etimes articles cost money and we don't have the dollars or the need to pay. we come to this great site because it is a helpful and great site. Oh i got a question does anyone know a written text on journeys besides huck finn, tempest and the journeys stimulus booklet?
Coz i did my assignment and my teacher looked at it and told me id be lucky to get a C- and thats all she would say besides change the written text. I'm stumped and its due soon please help me.
I had to let the owners of this site know that if they thought aussie kids were almost flooding this website now, then you wait for our second term starts in april or june and then we get heaps of assignments and then people will really be coming in. So you might want to go the nsw board of studies site at that time and get a copy of the assignment for english and put some suggested texts. just a suggestion to help u guys out coz its gonna be alot more people.
Anyways thanks a million and please answer my question above
Around the World in Eighty Days.
Hey lucky for me eh, i go to a school in the 'Gong and practically none of my year knows about boredofstudies so when i do my ass tasks i prob have an unfair advanatge. Also when i sit the HSC exams the it won't be a prob for me cos the marke marks classes of a school toegther and not differnet schools togther so mine won't seen to be the same infact it will be unique beacsue it will be different to rest of the people in my classes
Nice to see that there are people using www.boredofstudies.org and are discussing it on other forums. It's good to spread the word.
Just hoping that the Victorian people would soon catch onto the site and populate the victorian section
What's it for? Apparently not the Victorian era? Melbourne related?
I assume the State of Victoria. Melbourne may be the state capital, but IanB will know for sure.
(Has Ian vanished, I don't recall seeing anything from him for a while)
The capital of Australia is Canberra
The capital of NSW is Sydney
The capital of Queensland is Brisbane
The capital of The Northern Territory is Darwin
The capital of Western Australia is Perth
The capital of South Australia is Adelaide
The capital of Victoria is Melbourne
The capital of Tasmania is Hobart
Here you go Kizza, add these to your list:

What is the significance of the Australian Capital Territory and how does Canberra fit into that definition?
Don't know Hugh, but I'm sure there must be some info somewhere.

Les
Oh, I get it Hugh, it's like Washington, D.C. The city of Canberra is its own district.

Ig,
you seeem to know alot about english and u seem very concerned abou the students studying journey in NSW well im in yr 12 in sydney doing this stupid english journey and i really feel it a waste of time.... each year the board of studies make the exams harder and harder im not sure what goes throught there mind but the stress they put on us is un believable
and the reason why so many ppl are asking for help is because our "techers" are always looking for creative students wjo find infomation them self and when we do that they nava wanna help us try and understand it. the ways this HSC is run is terrible and the way techers knock u back is worse
but i would like to say that reading what u r trying u really understand or trying to understand what we are going thro so thank you xoxo keep on helping cos u dont know how much u help ppl out here in the big wide world of australia
