Thesis:__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I. Background
A. This is only one among many knotty ethical and controversial issues that surrounds genetic engineering.
B. Genetic engineering refers to the alteration of genetic material, to change human traits, such as susceptibility to certain diseases and disorders
C. One significant type of genetic engineering is gene therapy. Human DNA is the raw material of life.
D. A unique DNA contains anywhere from 40,000 to 100,000 genes. Genes contain chemical operational instructions for human functions and traits.
E. A normal human has 46 chromosomes, arranged in 23 pairs. Every person has two of every particular gene.
F. If one genes in a pair is dominant, and the other is recessive, then the dominant gene will control that function or trait.
G. Everybody carries some genes that are defective or that have mutations when compared to the gene’s normal condition.
H. A major purpose of gene therapy is to correct or override the disease causing instruction issued by those defective genes.
I. Austrian Monk named Gregor Mondel found a theory in gene hereditary.
J. Genetic engineering has been long used by selectively breeding plants and animals to create new and different variety.
II. Opposing Position

B. You need a more detailed outline. Such as this:
1. Intro.
2. Background
3. Gene study in plants
4. Gene study in animals
5. Gene study in man
C. Genetic engineering
1. Altering the gene code
2. Moral and legal implications
