Hi

this is for a homework assignment with references from prose and poetry.
Arthur Miller's, The Crucible and John Osbourn's, Luther are my prose references.

A short one satirizing the process:

God heard the embattled nations sing and shout
'Gott strafe England!' and 'God save the King!'
God this, God that, and God the other thing -
'Good God!' said God, 'I've got my work cut out!'

Sir John Squire (1884-1958)

Another one:

An Argument
by Thomas Moore (1779-1852)

I’ve oft been told by learned friars
That wishing and the crime are one,
And Heaven punishes desires
As much as if the deed were done.

If wishing damns us, you and I
Are damn’d to all our heart’s content;
Come, then, at least we may enjoy
Some pleasure for our punishment!
