Well, since you're a modern reader, how about interpreting it personally? How does reading her work make you feel? Do you enjoy it? Are there concepts or words that you don't understand?

I am not sure why Emmy would have a different effect on the modern reader than those of earlier years. Maybe because she consistently used meter and (off) rhymes but such techniques are not employed as much today?

I might argue that we think differently today about topics of religion- Emily's 'audience' were primarily Protestant Christians. Today, we're a mixture of any and all religions and lack of religion, with a broader view of what the possibilities might be.
