i have to write an essay on Edward Thomas'S poem "The Owl". please help
THE OWL
Edward Thomas (1878-1917)
Downhill I came, hungry, and yet not starved;
Cold, yet had heat within me that was proof
Against the North wind; tired, yet so that rest
Had seemed the sweetest thing under a roof.
Then, at the inn I had food, fire, and rest,
Knowing how hungry, cold and tired was I.
All of the night was quite barred out except
An owl's cry, a most melancholy cry
Shaken out long and clear upon the hill,
No merry note, nor cause of merriment.
But one telling me plain what I escaped
And others could not, that night, as in I went.
And salted was my food, and my repose,
Salted and sobered, too, by the bird's voice
Speaking for all who lay under the stars,
Soldiers and poor, unable to rejoice.
Start with form and meter used, then mention rhyme scheme, and go into depth about the message the author wishes to convey. Find the differenced between 'accentual' and 'syllabic' rhythm.
As an aside, I read that Edward Thomas was the real inspiration for Robert Frost's poem, The Road Less Traveled. That is, in their walks together, Thomas was always dissatisfied they had not taken a different route.

would u pls help me to analyze the poem "preluds" ?
I m going to write a paper on "preludes" about the theme and every poetic elements in it.
I need help analzing a few poems. The first one is "America" by Claude McKay.
Specifically Connations, tone and theme and paradox of his love and "her hate".
What biblical implication does bread of bitterness have?
What does the autor mean by the phrase "cultured hell"?
Explain why, for McKay, the juxtaposition of words like these adds to the depth of his ironic lament.
It is implies by McKay that the same elements that brought down Ozmandias and his civilization will bring down America. Describe those elements and offer an evaluation.
I am totally green at analzing poetry and would really like to know how to do it. Any comments would be appreciated.

I need help to analize it. the other thing I need is some thing about "retreat".

What are you on about? The T.S. Eliot poem, Preludes? Google has hundreds of hits for such a search as 'Eliot preludes poem analysis'. For example, [www.essaybank.co.uk]. What you mean by 'retreat', I have no idea whatsoever.
Or do you mean Wordsworth's The Prelude. Be a long essay, if so!
i have to analysis the theme of the poem, time period and any connections to lives of poets. Please help.
The name of the poems are ozymandias, author Percy Bysshe Shelley
and kubla khan by /samuel taylor Coleridge
i urgently need the analize or comentary of edward taylor's poems!

Can somebody tell me what kind of poem Oh Captain My Captain is? What is the style? Thnx for any help!
Alyssa, it's a tribute poem to Abraham Lincoln. It's written in free verse, meaning it does not have a definite rhyme scheme or metrical cadence.
