Nervous, so nervous,
like a first-time mother cat
finding a place for her creation,
the manifestation of all she's worth
in this life.

Ease into reality, relax, slowly now,
that's it. Watch for signs and flashing lights,
always communicate what you plan to do
so as not to surprise the others
who will end up surprising you anyway.

Confident that your pros will outweigh the cons
(and besides, nobody's perfect anyway),
your fear outweighs your confidence, but you
try anyway. To lose is better than to quit,
or so you've told yourself.

I'd rather have left. I'd rather have not
tried at all if I'd known you would deny
my achievements and tell me everything
I did wrong, as if there were nothing right.

And I leave, a failure. Another statistic,
the next girl to fail the driver's test,
and walk away with an unrestricted permit,
which is nothing of what I desired, and so,

it means nothing except just that: failure.

I enjoyed all but the 3rd stanza, something about it doesn't flow quite right. I think it may be the 'anyway' you have in twice. My personal opinion would be to eliminate both of those and it would flow a bit better. 1st and 4th stanza especially enjoyable!

Nutmeg,

If all pedestrians made it away alive, and the auto insurance people aren't knocking on your door, then I would say for a teen driver it would be rated as a success. :p

Loved the first time mother cat thing.
Understand nervous at that line.

Bruce,

So you're saying, that because those things don't exist, I failed? Hmph!

Terry,

Thank you smiling smiley I was trying to think of something that is nervous, and I remember years ago my cat started having her babies on my LAP of all places, because she didn't know where else to go. Panicked look on her face, etc. etc., and I realized that it fits in also because she was bringing forth the manifestation of everything she's worth, her purpose, all she's here for. While our purpose is not to learn to drive, it IS a measurement of one's worth in society, how ppl view them. Bad drivers get more bad jokes than blondes!

LMAO,

Well didn't that just open the door! Who wants to be the first one to come up with a Lady of the Night bad driver joke? winking smiley

And no dear. I meant to say that as long as you make it to point A to B without wrecking something, or killing/maiming someone/thing than you have succeeded as a driver, no matter what the paper says.

Lastly dear, don't define yourself by the mores of society; define your own success.

I will be offline for about a week for the most part, but will try and read occasionally.

Ohhhh... I thought you meant, like, in a perfect/ideal world if those things didn't happen (in general), then I'd have succeeded. Basically saying "if pigs flew, it would be a success."
