The Path of Least Resistance

Here I stand, at the crossroads.
Of life, of womanhood, of circumstance.
Shall I go on down the consistently
crooked path I have led?
Or choose the road paved with the old
cobblestones of experience, a path
which would lead me into the land of
"what's best?"

Each stone, worn with age,
represents another's mistake.
The road is carefully built, with
it's pieces purposely placed so closely
so as not to allow room for fresh
regrets. To follow this road
would be easiest, to listen to the
voices of time long ago would
prevent heartache on everyone's
behalf. Finally, my chance
to help everyone in my life!
The way it should be done,
the way that is best.

But something holds me back.

What about my own experience?
Breaking the rules breaks the monotony,
as the girl that I am breaks through
crystal glass and concrete walls.
A prick there,
a headache there,
but such freedom!

I cannot follow the path that led you,
and maybe I'll make the mistakes that you made.
But stings will heal,
and headaches will fade;
With youthful anticipation,
I embrace my unbridled spirit,
because it is my resistance that counts.

I liked it, what I got out of it was that you want to be your own person and not follow previous people's lives just because it is the safe way to go.

Cad,

A song title by whom? The the? And I just used it as a phrase... everyone uses it. puzzled Do I need to put quotes around it or anything? Seems like if that were the case, that whomsoever should write a poem called "With You," they'd have to put quotes because of all the songs that are called such.

Ben,

Thank you for reading and appreciating.

I'll be writing more later, and thank you all.

Lady, titles can't be copyrighted. There may be any number of works with the same name as long as the material therein is different.

As far as your poem goes, I like it. Of course you realize the school of hard knocks is not always the expressway to success.
