I don't usually preface anything I write here but, given the subject matter, I just thought I'd mention that this is not a political statement. I'm talking about people, not nations.
************************
it is a Sunday night
like any other
except
tonight the sirens wail
and my radio crackles
and my heart
races
a man in a far off land
has decided to save me
to offer me the chance of liberty
the right to say whatever i like
to wear blue jeans
i guess
i want to be saved
i want to speak my mind
i want to pray in my own way
i want to smile
more often
but tonight all i want
is to stay alive
to see my wife and child
restored to the happiness
that comes in fleeting glances
in the eerie silence
between bombing campaigns
yesterday
my best friend lay in my arms
or at least the body parts
i could find
tomorrow...
will it come for us?
it is dark now
and the shadows encroach
like ghosts of idealogy
waiting
to steal me away
while i lay not sleeping
and praying
before this all began
before this all began last time
i'd thought it might be a solution
but it wasn't
it wasn't anything as tangible
it was fear
that's all
forget all the rhetoric
forget all the justification
forget free speach
forget everything
i just pray we see the morning
Good message, but needs puntcuation, try revising it in a more fluent means.

This one makes me think, I like that.

damn...the title, the poem, it all meshes and the poem pulls on my heart
