Come on guys, winter is the best time for writing poetry, not much else to do besides try and keep warm. I talked to my sister the other day, she said buds were already out in her garden. 'Oh to be in England, now that January's? here'. Anyway, I'll be glad when winter's over.
I look out my window, and what do I see?
The snow on the ground, and the wind through the tree,
No flowers in sunshine, no birds on the wing,
Nothing to signal the coming of Spring.
The days they are dreary, the days they are short,
And the nights are so cold, that nobody ought
Be about, unless they, have mischief to do,
For the wind howls and howls, and chills through and through.
I turn up my furnace, and close tight my eyes,
And picture the sunshine, and soft breeze that sighs
Through the lilacs, that waft their fragrant perfume
Through my windows, flung open, in every room.
Nice! Of course, it's 85 degrees here in LA, and I can't prune the roses because they're still blooming.
I think you have an unnecessary comma in this line between 'they' and 'have.'
Be about, unless they, have mischief to do,

JP,
Short and ought, don't rhyme for me, and those two lines that carried over into the next before the pause, I found a little bit disconcerting.
Otherwise I loved it. I especially could visualize you and the furnace!
I like that comma where it is. Gives us pause at the pause point.
80 and higher in New Mexico.
Sitting on my patio right this second, wondering where life went.

Your flaps are down, your sails are trimmed,
It's time to rest awhile,
And cherish those you love the best,
And greet life with a smile.
So ask not where the years have gone,
You've lived them well, I trust,
Just count on many more of them,
Before you hit the dust.

Terry---you have done more living in your lifetime that 90% of the general population--and have done more interesting things. And you will do more!
You are just contemplating life cause you are recuperating from some big ole owie you have and looking at the tunnel you have to go through before you hit the light---there is one ya know--that light---you will see it when you are past all the necesssary steps it will take to get there!!!
Here in Colorado it is 13 degrees one day and the next it is 69---never know how to dress---and we need to do snow dances---drought drought drought is upon us............snow in the mountains (less than usual) and none in the plains so far this winter...........
love your poem JP--leave the comma--for the pause--agree

Great work. I really enjoyed it. I wish i could say the same for my winters, but since i feel the need to do this. I know it isn't my work. I know i shouldn't,but i can't resist
I look out my window, and what do I see?
Dead grass, and nothing more,
Hoping for snow,
No flowers in sunshine, no birds on the wing,
Nothing to signal the coming of Spring.
The days they are dreary, the days they are short,
And the nights are so cold, but not everyday
I could have sworn yesterday it was summer,
Though here in good old Louisiana,
The weather can be such a twisted dream.
I get tempted with good cold air,
The next day it feels like summer
Without lovlely flowers,and green trees
I sit with my blankie, and write my poetry,
And picture the snow, and many inches of it
Though for now, I can only wait.
To find my cold paradise...
My lovely winter.

well, nice, for it being 3 stanzas about winter the anticipation of spring..good work!
Salma.
It's deja vu for you! Can't wait for Spring even if it is 60 degrees around here.

Go go go go...Hey i redid this poem. I also read this poem.
Happy for the bump, Les. It has come at an opportune time. It's 12 degrees here in Jersey right now, with a wind chill close to zero.
JP: If you read this, come back, we miss you.
