the is-ness of the poem
is meaning

sometimes.

it's being is
beyond itself.

the world it makes
it means.

the mind it means
makes
its meaning,

means to make
that meaning,

or something else.

we get to get it
as it reaches us

as we reach out to it.

a tree, an envelope,
a prism can be

like this. a star
beyond our touching
is within our reach...

like a poem. another,
like ourselves, unlike
ourselves

we reach,
we reach as a poem

within our reach,

touches us
to make us us:

beyond the poet's
similes.

the making makes the making,
that is poeisis:

making...not
some static verbal
residue.
