The clouds move like smoke
whipping through the night sky
as though God himself was blowing them
and all the while, behind me as I stand at the living room window,
the sun shines from my bathroom and I am haloed in the glory of 3, 40 watt bulbs.
I feel as though I want to contemplate
the World’s axis versus my nucleus but at 5 in the morning,
while my coffee brews and my cigarette just begun,
it’s too much to think, and decide I will reflect about it later
when I am home from the office and too tired to remember to ponder.
I see my day waiting to move forward and I can no longer
put off the inevitable, stepping over my obscenely strewn-about cat
I turn the page on the day calendar to today, flick on the stereo
in time to hear Poker Face end and head to the shower,
where God’s light shines from 3, 40 watt bulbs.
I like this one a lot, Gwydion. You‘ve come a long way from the self-conscious poet who stepped into emule years ago.
This sounds real time; you still working at THAT place?
'I want to contemplate
the World’s axis versus my nucleus,'
she says,
and it does not sound
like a daydream to me.
The spin from today's scent,
awakening,vibrant,
and the four o'clock news:
which explosion do you hear?--
make my head spin so...
so I tune in to early jazz,
try a new shirt,
take another sip.
Is there a common factor?--
I wonder and drift
to my friend in Watertown:
is she safe?--forty years
after we all shared places and
uncertainties in Cambridge...
early jazz...kept us going,
while the cat purred to pigeons
on the window sill..
dreaming of feathers and a piece of meat.
A good read, Gwydion, the artistry is in the details.

I like the pome,, I don't use 40 watt bulbs and the heck with the planet. I'm too old to see in dim light. I really understand the morning thing you have here though. When young, my dad and I watched the sun come up many mornings, him with coffee, me with cocoa. Then he'd go to work and I'd go to bed. Now I do exactly as you are descirbing wonderfully, cept for the coffee and the smokein' stuff. Really great job here,,, not such a great job in commenting upon your job on my part. Word for the day "ramble"
love ya
I use 9 watt bulbs, Terry. They are a 40 watt equivalent. It is bright lights I cannot tolerate. Slowly but surely I have been sneaking them in all over the house.
Hi Boo, very perceptive, yes, this was written real time, about a year ago...and no, I'm not working there, check out "A Day at the Office" I posted it before this piece, it's um, descriptive.
Thank you, Les
Love ya too, Terry; I think your comments are wonderful, your mornings with your dad sound lovely.
