Truck Stop

Truck Stop

The coffee
a primordial slick
dogs, chests and bare feet
unwelcome.
Hirsute and biblical allowable,
profanity and nicotine
encouraged.
The fare, unjustly greased,
eggs to make Seuss proud
and a strung out waitress
who is not anyone's mother.
The fumes of diesel engines
rattle and cough,
staving off the cold,
the big rigs waiting,
waiting, waiting,
like a faithful hound
to hit the ribbons
of blacktop once more,
longhaul.

Bruce, I've been to a few truck stops, the best have strong coffee, hearty food, hot showers, and smiling waitresses. A good read.

I wrote this one for Nolon in the hope of luring him back, but I, too, have been at more than a few, though in most the waitresses have been surly. Lol
