This Stands for That
She's just running out the door
cryptography
have fun
cryptography's not so far from
poetics of a certain kind
this stands for that
you know
that kind of thing
the domain of metaphor
of representation deferred
indirection, my friend,
the only direction
everything counts
unless it doesn't
13 hours of sleep and no where to go
add another counter to the row
Cryptography and poetry...there is a similarity...I hadn't noticed that before. You are an astute observer, Peter. "indirection, my friend, is the only direction." How true.
Joe
it's only because the greatest inspiration for poetry for me for the last few year is so hard for me to figure out some days.
thanks for visiting, Joe.

Sometimes we get too involved with the minutae that we miss the bus.
A good read Pete.

Hey Peter, I enjoyed this one. I also enjoy cryptography. Now though you have me wondering about the etymology of that word. Does it have any relation to the Rosetta stone and the Egyptian pyriamids?
Bruce,
crypto- or crypt-
pref.
Hidden; secret: cryptoclastic.
[From Greek kruptos, hidden, from kruptein, to hide.]
Their are kinds of poetry in which the purpose is to keep the meaning hidden from all but select readers...like the poems of some of the troubadours, what they called, trobar clus.
When I was in high school I was interested in codes and code-breaking, but really didn't have the brains to be able to pursue that.
In college I did a paper on the Voynich dociment, a famous piece of secret writing.
I also studied the hermetic tradition which flows through sncretism into stuff like Spencer's poems, etc.
I'm glad you enjoyed the poem. The present love of my life is into cryptology and code braking.
amo et avanti,
Peter
i like the contrary nature of this poem. learning to accept life involves accepting its contrary nature. your poem, peter, nods to this and leads the way to further acceptance.
somehow, I think I might have ended up play backgammon, which I do not do very well.
Yes, red, I do get contrarian at times.
Thanks for reading.
welcome back,
amo et abanti,
Peter
