Content Is King

Ad wars are raging
on the TV and radio
netflix and comcast
time-warner and gannett

all the media moguls
are dying for the next big thing
the next "Dynasty" or "Dallas",
get me another "Batman" or "Cheers" they beg

but there are no new ideas on the horizon
what's lost on the ad-men is one simple fact
and as they try to push their reality TV
down our throats they fail to realize
that content is king

and they just aren't making shows
like "Gunsmoke" any more

Les

yes, but they aremaking elementary and continuum, and if you listen, around the bang bang bang shoot em ups, they do have one-liners that are gems

cheers,

Peter

ps

nice piece

This is my reaction to all the reality shows most of which show very little imagination. "Rocket City Rednecks" is perhaps the lone exception to that rule.

I saw parts of the History channel's two new entries, "Vikings" and the "Bible", trite.

"The Bible" on the History Channel is such a disappointment; I had expected much more. Haven't seen "The Vikings" yet, but after "The Bible" I'm not expecting much better.

*smiles. My dad and I used to sit and watch gunsmoke when I was a wee thing. I loved that show. Mind you, at the time, I also lived in a town with the second largest rodeo in the world. Alas the town has grown, but the stampede has shrunk. Hmm... might be a poem in there somewhere. Lol.

I turned off all tv in the house 4 years ago. Now the only tv in the house are dvd‘s on a movie projector; shows like Numb3rs, Dead Like Me, Crossing Jordon and CSI. Saves me money and spares me the insipid advertising.

I never saw Gunsmoke and I love reality TV, but I also appreciate the sentiment behind this piece and I wish I were the other way around.

Especially love the last three lines.

There is nothing “reality“ about reality tv, Nutmeg, it is just big brother gearing up to make The Running Man a reality.
