Those Things We Know Now

Those waltz and paused and
preening moves
-light echo an effect-
a chime of glass on glass
and the toast to a better day somewhere

The stars tonight aglow
the passion in the song unknown
and we but two lost travellers sitting
and viewing from outside

I won't let you go. I won't never know.

Home in the darkest hour
the fragrance of the forgotten
flowers
we picked so long ago.

I won't let you go. I won't never know.

Oh how the day is always dark
before the time we
pretend to part
standing glaring in the same empty room.

And of you? Yes, you?
-who was before and counted as more
than mere friend?

I won't let you go. I won't never know.

Time rests and in the last fade of light
like better angels to waltz
a chime of glass on glass
is sounded
and never more those things we know now
are heard again.

I won't never know. I won't let you go.

I like the sentiment here, LW.

"A chime of glass on glass"
always that delicate sound edging toward its own fragility,
as is every attempt at intimacy between adult who long ago have passed to inviolate innocence.

thanks for coming round again Lennonwolf,

Peter

I too enjoyed this one. Many wonderful elements that paint a vivid picture in my mind.
