'Twas on a cold Wednesday in that April past,
The Lori Jane put out to sea.
With four masts of sail to the cold wind unfurled
And a hold full of copper and tea.
To the West Indies, to take on some more,
Cargo for Liverpool town.
But somewhere not far from the Icelands own shore
The Lori Jane would go down.
Forty four men and the skipper so brave
In the sea below Icelands cold shore
The good ship there, called Lori Jane
Would go to the cold oceans floor.
The storm was a brewin' the winds were so chill
As the Lori Jane furled her sail,
The water was coming on her so fast
That forty four men had to bail
But the good ship broke deep, her main keel did split
She heeled hard to her port,
"Abondon the tub", the skipper did call,
"With not time your gear for to sort"
Forty four men were chilled to the bone
In lifeboats there in the sea,
The brave skipper went down with his ship that night
To Davy Jones locker to be,
Forever just feed for the sharks,
And feed for the small fishes too.
While forty four men from the good Lori Jane
Were all that was left of her crew.
They saw a ship coming, and they were all safe,
A mighty ship, steamer and fast
She stopped in her tracks, to save the good men,
Of Lori Janes crew, they were last
Their prayers were answered and they dried out,
And ate hot soup to their fill.
They thanked God for the ship which saved them that night,
The Titanic,,,,, and they always will.

A good read Terry. How's everything in New Mexico?

Interesting read Terry. I wonder how this one slipped by me in 2002!
Speaking of slipping through the cracks, so did this tale, if it is based on the truth. Poor Captain Smith; saves one ship, only to lose his own. Sounds like the Lori Jane was an albatross.
This one was strictly hogwash and hopefully eyewash. A good friend of mine, however had a neighbor in Boise who was in Hiroshima 6 Aug 1945. Survived the blast, lost everything including his family. Went to stay with his father,, in Nagasaki, arrived 8 Aug 1945. He survived that one too.. so,,, with that in mind, I don't know if any of the imaginary 44 of Lori Jane's crew survived Titanic's episode. all in fun.
I kind of had a feeling it was fiction Terry, but sometimes history is just that weird.
Either way I very much enjoyed the read.
