I took the cross-town shuffle to my friend's studio
bore witness to his splash
turned down the coffee for water
and listened even when I spoke

he gave us his calm-eyed trombone reprise
defered to motivation and retreat
made each body comfortable in his place
expressed surprise that I'd not been there before

and made the afternoon worth the trip

In response to :

Your Call with the Umpire of Cornflakes

I don’t know what I mean and you don’t either
can you determine the learning curve necessary ?
can you read my mind by studying my handwriting ?

I thought the artist would
come up with a watercolor abstract
or an oil pastel symbolic of the day but the canvas
sky stayed three deep in fog

All the furnishings except the outdoor settee
has been thrown out and not a soul
bid to step up to buy the historic Little Fox Theater
the future is uncertain

how long did my mother live?
how many years did my father survive?
lay your bets lay your bets

one hundred and ten possible games or more
the oldest trick alive does sudoku and crossword puzzles every morning
on the john and remember her dreams in jumbles

Pandora has been looking for her box
while the dear man plays his cards close to his chest

remind me of ee cummings
remind me pound

the empire of hailstones haled a cab
while I was waiting for the crosstown shuttle
whichever comes first, he told me, whichever comes first
you were being followed by a moon shadow

an ice ball landed in farthest corner of the convent courtyard
a nun came downstairs and hit it
with a golf club
she has a good swing
She had one hell of a swing

by Mary-Marcia Casoly, who's reading in Berkley with Steve Arnston this Friday the 18th of December 7-9pm at Expressions Gallery
2035 Ashby Ave Berkeley 94703

which was in response to :

The emperor of earthquakes –
Am I waiting for him
Or is he waiting for me
In the dark corner
Before I go out,
Before I come in?

Playing poker with the one-eyed dog
With someone else’s mythology,
The psyche never sleeps;
It forgets it’s dreaming, or
Slips me a card, face down.

It carves out the mortuary furniture
On a cold, damp morning -

In three stages to every correction:
First, recognize the scenery.
Then, stand up straight.
And then, look him in the eye.

Can you read minds
Don’t tell me
I can’t know what you are thinking.
Aces in the hole.
Its all in the empathetic moment,
Not a system at all…deeper than that.

which yous guys in the forum already saw.

btw 939 is the address of my friend's studio/gallery.

and made the afternoon worth the trip

well that's good, Peter.

I stop by and read just about each day, but can't seem to comment on much these days.

Me, I can't seem to write poems unless someone instigates it.

I had a Mazda 626 once. (standing in for Johnny)

I think it's the domino effect, Peter.

Happy early Birthday.
