Cool me in the bright lights,
flattened between the sheets,
malleable like the Bible verse
that makes the pathway straight
for my soft, synthetic sandals;
unworthy, lying blisters.
I shroud these words in guilty cloak
at night, lest you be deceived
by fishy tales so fluently...
Sound the trumpets, reader dear,
for in this read, the erring ghost
might deliver lofty whispers
ripe for twilight's bended knee.
Sunken deep within my crown are
mortal visions, yielding earth
like furtive wolf's recumbent lambs.
Sleeping through one hundred moons,
quick to divine the beau ideal
when words descend like fearsome doves,
inscribing univocal truth
upon my honeyed lips.

It's been a long while since you last posted, and I'm glad to see your talent hasn't eroded one bit. This is a wonderful read, especially aloud. The language and rhythm move it along beautifully, and the occasional aliterative phrasing (soft, synthetic sandals...fishy tales so fluently...) is both pleasing and effective. Well done!

Smooth as silky soymilk !
great read, I totally agree with Joe, aloud especially
Good one Bob, a search for truth in words, something I think we all seek. I really liked these lines:
Sound the trumpets, reader dear,
for in this read, the erring ghost
might deliver lofty whispers
ripe for twilight's bended knee.

Joe: I don't feel like the same poet, but I hope you're right. Thanks, man!
Johnny: Damn, I missed the boat on the soy wordplay. Thanks for reading it aloud (I was worried about the flow otherwise).
Les: Please keep hounding me to write. I've missed your encouragement terribly.
After all this time, I couldn't sleep at 1am last night when the first stanza crept into my head. I had to get up and write down the rest. I wonder if I'll ever be able to write about the act of writing...
I wonder if I'll ever be able to write about the act of writing...
Bob, if you do my friend, please let us be the first to witness that feat. It's great to see your name on the board, write more!

No boat to miss, I wanted to expand the cliche of "smooth as silk" a little
(Silk is a brand of soymilk)
Hey Les, whatever became of the anthologies? Just curious...
They're still here. Not updated, unfortunately, but the links work now. They had been inopeerable for a while. Just type in Anthology: (author) and you should be able to access them.
Les
Another fine example of Bob's work.

I wonder if I'll ever be able to write about the act of writing...
I have tried countless times...and because the act of writing is so personal, it really can only be described from the individuals point-of-view...and wow, there are so many interpretations.
WOW! This is incredible. I loved so many elements that it would not do justice to the rest to try to highlight any "favorites". Time to read it again.
ahhh
