Rosa Parks

Rosa Parks
did not die today she
did not lay into state for the whole
world to meet her on her way to heaven
on the bus the white man insisted and history
fell down all around them her mildness and
her truth sat and waited then for the coming
years to meet her on the bus running high and running late
look to heaven, Rosa Parks, perhaps we will follow you.

Nice tribute, Peter. She will be remembered as a woman of courage.

Did you read the New York Times today , Peter? There is an article entitled " The Long History of a Bus Ride". I am using it along with your poem in my class tomorrow! I'll keep you posted!

As much a response to the myth as to the act.
