one hundred proof whiskey
Posted by: twotenranch (---.dialsprint.net)
Date: September 10, 2004 07:24PM

I stand at the bar, a drink in my hand,
My quest is centuries old.
For hundred proof whiskey, fifty proof women,
An’ fourteen carat gold.

A dance hall girl, with a tip and a whirl,
Comes to stand at my side.
She’s pretty and painted, drunk and she’s tainted,
Never to be the bride.

There on my thigh, hangs six ways to die,
I heerd Billy Rhode is in town.
In the morn’ in the street, Bill an’ I’s gonna meet
An’ one of us will go down.

The price on his head, alive, or he’s dead,
Five grand, an’ it’ll be paid
To the man who’ll outdraw, an’ kill that outlaw
When the bad guys body is laid

For tonight I’m in here, with a shot an’ a beer
I’m feelin’ tough, unbeatable, bold
With hundred proof whiskey, fifty proof women
An’ fourteen carat gold.

Terry

"With hundred proof whiskey, fifty proof women
An’ fourteen carat gold."

classic lines, obviously your choice of content stands out and stands out well, good poetry, have you ever listened to Nick Cave and his wild west type tales, Stagger Lee for one, which I belive is an old standard, or Red Right Hand....................I think you'd enjoy them.

Doubt everything. Find your own light.

Terry,

Excellent, and it has a nice song quality to it. Great title and this line,

"For hundred proof whiskey, fifty proof women,
An’ fourteen carat gold."

is a gem. It's good to have you back.

Oh what a joy it is to have our master storyteller back! Welcome back Terry!

This was a very brilliant poem. I almost forgot what I was supposed to be doing. I love you man!

Thy own reproach alone do fear.

fifty proof women,

Interesting point, Bruce. I assumed it meant women who were "not the marrying kind." Of whom my Dad warned me to avoid.

Terry---this was good un--anticipating the next chapter..........and tis good to see ya.........

I think I will not comment on the "women" discussions above---

and Les, I think men would be hard pressed to totally avoid "bad" women at some time in their life....and does that make men "bad" as to where a woman would not want to take them home to momma---see, there I go and I said I did not want to comment.............here is Ell pulling back....

So, shameless self serving bump.

There are at least a half dozen fires in the southland right now (Sunday night). The largest of which is in Orange county, not far from San Berdo.

Am in South Cal now. I have seen it first hand. It is nearly as bad as the media is making it out to be. I haven't been to SD county yet, but Malibu, Lake Arrowhead, and Magic Mountain are burning well, and don't seem to care a lot what we do.
We'll keep trying, and as one CDF captain said this morning, "Oh, we will win, but it is going to be costly"

Note the trees in Johnny's photo. Tell him we will try Johnny, but the guarentee has expired.

Johnny, I hope that all is well with you and yours.

Let's all hope and pray that the winds subside so Terry and his colleagues can work their magic. It's estimated that upward of 8500 firefighters are involved in these operations. Like Terry, they're putting their necks on the line to save our skins. Godspeed T-bone and all the other firefighters out there protecting our lives and property.

Taken at the San Bernadino tanker base, used to be Norton AFB
Tanker 23 is flown by Brent Conner (whose father died in an airtanker in Califonia in 1981)
Tanker 27 is flown by Steve Maxwell of Holbrook Az. Both belong to another company.
Tanker 55 is flown by Pete Bell of Santa Cruz Ca and it belongs to the only other company to use that type of airplane. It is a Neptune like I fly.
I do not know the single engine pilots. The helicopter belongs to the state of California and is used in aerial supervision of fire fighting in the air and on the ground. (the youtube link)

Are you still in San Bernadino, or have you moved to San Diego?

Seems like many of the smaller fires have been put out and some progress has been made on the larger ones according to the CDF website: [www.fire.ca.gov] />

Thank you all for your prayers and concern.

Johnny, I am very happy for your family. I wish I could extend that happiness to everyone in the basin. There are about 2,000 who were not so fortunate.
Johnny, call your brother, tell him to call So Cal approach and tell them thanks for the help they gave the air tankers during the blow up. They control all the airspace in the LA basin to the Mex border.
I can point to three streets full of houses in Malibu that would not be standing were it not for the very professional, friendly, assistance of these wonderful unsung people. Have him tell his friends to make this call also please. In fact everyone who has an interest in the fires should thank these folks for their help. We could not have done what we did without their help in that low visiblity, highly congested, complicated airspace area. We are used to the the uncontroled Rocky Mountains and when we drop off into the LA basin, it's like being thrown to the wolves. So Cal makes it easy.

A number 858 537 5800 will get you to someone who can take a message.
Thank you for that.
