New Work

I have particularly enjoyed the recently published book by UK poet Paul Judges:

'a little book of stereotype and prejudice'

It opens with a poem about Ted Hughes, and then presents an extremely varied collection of other poems.

Simple, beautiful, carefully honed.......

Ted

you didnít
tell me
you were going
to die

I hadnít
known you
or the reason
why

we once
stayed
in your former
house

with your
former cat
and absent
mouse

hidden
valleys, near
Hebden
Bridge

where
brutal wind
assaults
the ridge

beside
a blackened
shivering
church

tortured
rootless
spirits
lurch

should
have married
a local
lass

a stable
girl
with lots
of brass

safely
in the
country
-side

where
bloody jaws
are gaping
wide

you
know
where you
are

with
howl
moo
or baa

always
near
the soothing
stream

where
silver flashes
weave
a dream

(My tribute to poet Ted Hughes)
