Inspirational Poems

I'm hosting a 40th birthday party for my wife. Her request is for each person who comes to bring their favorite inspirational saying or quote.

I have to admit that I'm having a hard time coming up with that perfect inspirational poem (and I do want to find the "perfect" poem), and thought someone on this discussion group could help.

I don't want it to be a montage on my love for my wife, but instead want something that is uplifting, that focuses on overcoming adversity, getting the most out of life, taking the path "less travelled" (and yes, I did think of Frost's poem), etc.

Thanks for your help!
Paul

There are many sites on the web that address this topic. One of the best is here:

A couple of suggestions -

To live content with small means;
To seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement
rather than fashion;
To be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not rich;
To study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly;
To listen to stars and birds, to babes and sages, with
open heart;
To bear all cheerfully, do all bravely, await occasions,
hurry never.
In a word to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious,
grow up through the common.
This is to be my symphony.

William Ellery Channing 1780-1842

-------------

Take time to think
this is the source of power.

Take time to play
this is the secret of perpetual youth.

Take time to read
this is the fountain of wisdom.

Take time to pray
this is the greatest power on earth.

Take time to laugh
this is the music of the soul.

Take time to give
it is too short a day to be selfish.
