On Himself

Weep for the dead, for they have lost this light;
And weep for me, lost in an endless night;
Or mourn, or make a marble verse for me,
Who writ for many. BENEDICTE.

~Robert Herrick~

*What do you think? I'm not sure what I think. I know that I like it very much. It holds much appeal for one such as myself. Is it possible to understand without fully understanding?

Sounds like an epitaph. He got his wish, too. People are still writing about him some 350 years later.

He never got part of his wish. No headstone marks his grave in his Devonshire churchyard.

Hugh, Sorry, but I'm not so bright. Don't have time to wonder, but what's an epitaph. I know I have heard the word, but the meaning eludes me.

Chesil, It is a sad thing. I did not know that.

Les made me bookmark that site as well.

He gave us alternatives, while we remember him, and mourn his death, he doesn't need the marble stone.
