Some one at the bush poetry site from Australia or New Zealand might remember the poem. Good luck.

Are you sure it isn't an old Country Western song?

"I "Love Summer more than I hate Winter"

Jean-Paul, I don't think any self-respecting cowboy would herd jerseys. They're too small. No beef on their bones, they make good butter though. Check this out!

The jersey and guernsey cattle are so specialised as milk producers that they have no spare energy for growing large muscles (meat). Unfortunately they pass this trait on to their offspring even when crossed with beef cattle making their calves virtually worthless. Now a holstein produces good calves when crossed with a beef bull and gives plenty of milk, even if it does contain less butterfat.

I don't know much (anything) about cows, so Margaret's query, coming from New Zealand, inspired me to do a bit of searching, and came up with this history of jersey cows in NZ -

Interesting. Taranaki is a beautiful place.
(I wonder if there are any jersey heifers in Lord of the Rings? - i think some of it was filmed around there!)

Dunno... but I saw a POODLE once that was about half white with large splotches of black. I didn't even realize it WAS a poodle, because I think of poodles being all one color (each). The owner told me that breeders try to get them all one color, so poodles like hers are rare. She added: "When people ask me what her breed is, I say HOLSTEIN."
