Could any of you translate this poem ? What does it mean? Thanks so much.

Amor Sadico

Julio Herrera y Reissig

BABELFISH (http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/) returned this:

Sadico Love Julio Herrera and Reissig No longer he loved, without leaving to you for that reason to love the shade of your distant love. No longer it loved to you, and nevertheless, the kiss of the repulsion united a moment to us... Bitter to please and Barbarian embeleso irritated my face, altered the semblante to me, no longer loved to you, and I was disturbed, however, like a virgin in a thick forest. And already lost for always, to verte to grow dark in the eternal mourning, dumb the love, atrocious, inexorable the inert heart, huraño, hirsuto..., never I lived like in that death, never loved to you like in that minute!

Of course when a computer translates, it's not always accurate.

sorry ... I deleted a translation, by mistake
.
Sadistic Love

I did not love you anymore, yet I never stopped
loving the shadow of your distant love.
I did not love you anymore, yet that kiss
of denial united us for a moment...

Sour pleasure and barbarous charm
contracted my face and deadened my countenance.
I did not love you anymore, yet I was troubled
like a virgin in a dark forest.

And while you were lost forever, looking
at your walk into the night of eternal mourning
the heart dead, love voiceless,

pitiless, heinous, rough, inexorable...
I never lived a death like that one,
and never loved you more than in that minute!

Yeah... that's pretty good.

My take on the last 6 lines would be a just slightly different:

Y ya perdida para siempre, al verte
anochecer en el eterno luto,
mudo el amor, el corazón inerte,
huraño, atroz, inexorable, hirsuto...,
jamás viví como en aquella muerte,
nunca te amé como en aquel minuto!

And [though you were] lost [to me] forever, when I saw you,
[even though I was] in the dark night of eternal grief,
[my] love silenced, [my] heart unmoved,
. . .
I was never more alive than in that death,
I never loved you more than in that moment!

To all :

I appreciate your helping me to understand this Spanish poem. The translation shows how powerful these verses can move me, so sad and so remembering a hopeless love!

Merry Christmas !
