I am planning on giving a gift and card to a person that is very special to me. She has been a great comfort, guide and mentor to me in the past few months. She is always giving, understanding, compassionate and has literally changed my life.
I am looking for a classic poem, nothing new, something fairly long lasting, something perhaps well known that would be a nice sentiment to add to the card. Somehting to say thank you, or how important she is, or even how she has helped me. She is truly my guiding light.
I have been looking for the perfect thing, so any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks so much,
This question has been asked before, use the search engine above your post and type in "friends, or friendship". You should get many worthwhile results.
Here's a couple more:
Last one for now:
YOU DESERVE TO BE TOLD...
There are people in our lives
who give us a lift,
whenever we think about them,
and that's the kind of person you are.
You've always made me
feel good about just being myself,
and I appreciate that so much.
I really like having you for a friend,
and I hope that today and always
Your life is filled with the happiness
You so richly deserve.
Thank you for your Friendship
And be sure that I would not,
Trade you for the world.
The problem with all of these is that she's not really a 'friend' per se, she is someone whom I look up too more than anything. I wouldn't consider us friends. She is my supervisor at work but has been so much more to me over the past year. I'm really looking for somehting that isn't about friendship or don't mention friendship explicitly, but guidance.
Other than that the ones you suggested were great and the sentiment I want to convey.
I found a few quotations that I like for the purpose but I'm really looking for a poem. There are the ones I like:
"The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit."
"Come to the edge
He said. They said: We are afraid.
Come to the edge
He said. They came.
He pushed them, and
Engrave this Quote "There ought to be so many who are excellent, there are so few."
-Janet Erskine Stuart
If you want something to accompany thanks to her for particular help or kindness to you during a difficult time, would this do?
Life is mostly froth and bubble.
Two things stand like stone:
Kindness in another's trouble,
Courage in your own.
- Adam Lindsay Gordon [1833-1870]
