Talia:

This brings back the vivid memories of the humiliation suffered by all of us who experienced boot camp. But you know what? Not many of us have ever regretted the decision to serve.

Thanks for remembering.

Grandfather suvived the trenches, father North Africa, brother and nephew Northern Ireland. Never say "This generation is scum, they won't serve" when they are needed, they will step forward.

At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Linda, I like the British and Canadian term "Remembrance Day" better than the American term "Veterans Day". I think the British term is more all-encompassing.

I agree, veterans sound so old and there are many young ones who need our help. And it does mean that civilians are included, because of the Blitz the firefighters, police, ambulance service and the merchant marine because of the convoys all have reprisentatives at remembrance services.

Do you shopping centres (malls, you call them?) stop and hold a silence at 11-11-11? Ours do, though only in the last few years.

No, we don't. That would be a victory of its own, if you could get Americans to
stop shopping for a minute!

I just love the fact that this is something that is not a UK holiday or a US, etc but a something we remember to think about TOGETHER because we went throught it TOGETHER.
