Retirement

Hi, I am looking for a poem for a colleague who is retiring after 50 years of service. I'm not very good at poetry myself so I would be grateful if anyone out there could help.
(he worked in the newspaper/print business)

Kind regards
Martyn

A Retirement Poem

I wrote this for someone on another forum on THS, and thought I'd share it with all you retirees and those of us who soon will be.
Retirement Time
2001Ann Driscoll

Even though you've just retired,
There's lots of work in store...
Fix the roof, paint the house,
And tile the bathroom floor.

The garden's overrun with weeds.
The fence has been neglected.
The tool shed's gotten out of hand.
Major clean-up's been projected.

Insulate the attic space.
Build a barbecue.
You won't have time to sit and rock.
There's too much stuff to do.

You've got a list of "Honey Do's"
But truth is, to be fair,
Your job is not to get things done,
But to STAY OUT OF SOMEONE'S HAIR!

Retirement, they say, starts your good Golden Years:
A time for relaxing the stress and the gears;
A time to do things you have wanted to do;
Like go to far places, old friendships renew
Develop new skills in your favorite pass-time;
Surf the great net and find new friends are on-line.
There are so many fun things you can do
As a person of leisure with free-time brand new
So, send me an email and joke every day.
I'll send each to you and then I will pray:
You are doing so fine, every day is a pleasure,
And retirement is truly your life's golden treasure
So, send me an email and joke every day.
I'll send each to you and then I will pray:
You are doing so fine, every day is a pleasure,
And retirement is truly your life's golden treasure.

!. I heard that someone read all of Dr. Seuss's OH THE PLACES YOU'LL GO at a retirement party and it was a bit hit. I know that's what I would love.

2. As I always say in such cases: Anything you choose will be fine, BUT anything you WRITE, no matter how silly and even if it doesn't really scan or rhyme, will be a "keeper" worthy of framing. It really isn't hard to do, especially if a few people work together. If the guy is known for over-using the COPIER, rhyme that with SLOPPIER and throw together a couple of lines. If he's a snappy dresser, that. If he ever sang at a company party, mention the song... etc.
