Financial Sheet - E-Mule Inc.

AARON - Was wondering what your financial statement looks like these days. You know, some sort of a Profit & Loss sheet. Need not be too detailed - just enough info to provide some sort of transparency in your operations. Something like this:

COSTS vs INCOME

Salaries & perks Publicity Sold
Equipt Amortization Non-Refundable Donations
Office Supplies ---etc.---
Transportation
Publicity Purchased
Office Rent
Website Rental
Copyright Fees
Water & Electricity
Telephone & Telex
Lawyers Fee
---etc.---

Work up something which will tell a layman what's going on.

E.J.

I don't mean to be thick, but... why?
I guess it's all harmless enough, but it sounds to me like approaching someone on the street and saying the equivalent of the credit card commercial:

'What's in YER wallet?'

E.J. and Jack -

If eMule is a non-profit or not-for-profit operation, then their financials are public information (we being the public).

But if it's a for-profit business (whether or not it actually MAKES a profit), then I think they can release financial information at their own discretion--except of course to shareholders, but I haven't heard any IPO rumors.

Of course, if you're thinking of laying a huge grant on them, I'm sure they'll be happy to account for the percentage of your gift will be spent on salaries, equipment, website licensing, purchasing poetry, bribing poets, etc.

I'm with Jack. It costs me nothing, so I don't see how it is any of my business. Or anyone else's for that matter.

Compared to me, Ayn Rand was a pinko.

I've been working on e-Mule since the beginning and I haven't seen a dime. Maybe I need a new agent. If Aaron what's to give out this info, that's fine with me. I do know though, that the bills aren't cheap and we barely break-even, if that. Here is a bit of info that might shed some light on our expendatures.

Our major expenses include hardware and our internet connection (co-lo), ~$240 per month. And from the little info I have, the site averages around $7.50 / day from advertising.

So $7.75 x 30 (days in a month) = $232.50 - $240.00 = ($7.50)

The numbers above, aren't made up. That is about what eMule brings in each month. Another thing that you have to realize is that we have to wait around 90 days until we see a check from our advertising host.

So, if anyone thinks that we're making a killing and padding our pockets with extra money made by this site, you're probably wrong.

Oh, grants and gifts are greatly appreciated ;-) .

Do you break even or have to pay out extra in months with 31 days? They weren't idiots who cried give us back our eleven days, they paid rent on those days that didn't exist but couldn't earn wages, I'd have felt cheated too.

It's a little bit of a give and take... Some months we come out ahead and most we don't. But all in all we break even.

Yeah!! Different pages have different types of advertising.

On the main content pages, for example (http://www.emule.com/poetry), there is a banner ad down the left side of the page.

And on pages such as the discussion forum, we have only Google AdSense banners across the mid-top, just underneath the title and navigation areas.

Kevin, does Google pay you depending on the number of hits you have to the site? Or is there just a flat fee per day, regardless of traffic?

Or do you get more if we go and look at the sites advertised?

This is a question for Aaron. But I'm sure it's based on traffic. Also, since they're text ads, they don't pay as well as the graphical ads.

they don't pay as well as the graphical ads.

But they're much less annoying. There's also a link on the main page where you (we!) can donate to Emule through Amazon.com.
