Bumps?

What meaneth the expressions 'bump' and 'bumping' used by Les and Hugh and others from time to time in these fora?

When I started 'bumping' it was because I had read all of the USP, and for a while there was little of merit. So I went to the 'Older Topic' button, hit it many times , and went to the depths of the archive to bring oldies to the top.

All you have to do is type any comment (even a . will do).
'Bump' is as good a word as any to expose newbies to good stuff, or give old timers another shot.
