I think that the poem you are looking for is not by James Baldwin, but by James Weldon Johnson. It is from a collection called "God's Trombones." You should be able to find it if you look for the right author. If you are unable to fine it, e-mail me, and I will send you a copy. I have taught this and also read it in performance. I love it.
